Thrashing in the new year

January 1st, 2009

As if I need another addiction to add to my list… well, New Year’s got me hooked onto Rock Band.

Look, I fit RIGHT in (note the hand-knit sockettes that both John and I are wearing… glam glam glam!):

The last time I can remember doing a big do for New Year’s was at the Congress Centre in high school. My friend scored free tickets, and we got gussied up. Tom Cochrane performed, and “Life is a Highway” had just come out that year; the whole ‘bigger is not necessarily better’ lesson kicked in that night.

The past four years, I’ve been lucky enough to hang at my dear friend Pascale’s cottage, which is much more my speed. The vast majority of our time this year was spent eating and/or Wii-ing.

I developed a healthy crush on Blue — it was the first time we’d ever been at the cottage together:

(Does anyone else out there take an obscene number of cat photos???)

And on New Year’s Day, we did manage to get outside to take advantage of Jamie’s mad rink-clearing skills:

It was the first time I skated since I sprained my MCL playing pick-up hockey in October… still not strong enough to play against those Smith Falls goons, but solid enough to try out a couple of synchronized single sow cows with P, ha!

And as for resolutions, I don’t tend to make them. I constantly have huge lists of “stuff to do”, but I don’t think that’s quite the same thing. Isn’t a resolution more like something that takes extra effort, or some change of behaviour? The last time I made a resolution, it was to send snail mail once a week (bill payments excluded); I tried that one three years in a row, but it never stuck out to the end.

Since then, I’ve lacked resolve, I guess. But if anyone wants to challenge me to something, let me know; that might be a bigger motivator for me to make a change. I’m so competitive… just ask anyone who’s played Rock Band with me.

I spent the majority of my New Year’s Eve at a friend’s house playing Guitar Hero’s version of Rock Band and was totally hooked too. I’m not sure our hosts’ ears will be the same again and I wouldn’t be surprised if the microphone was mysteriously “missing” the next time we go over. lol

Happy New Year! Looks like you had a great time. And what a handsome cat, no wonder you have a crush :)
