m = 70 ÷ 2

Hand Sculpted Polymer Clay Chocolate Chip Cookie Magnet Set of 5

Chocolate Chip Cookie Magnets by glamasaurus

I’m a year older today. I’ve never made a big too big a deal about age and birthdays, but this one was a bit weird as it approached — everytime it occurred to me that I was hitting 35, the formula “70 ÷ 2″ flashed through my brain. What the…?!

It’s been a nice day, mainly because John and I are in the midst of a two-week holiday in California (the longest vacation I’ve taken from freelancing in the 6 years I’ve been doing it — eeep!). We scored gorgeous weather in San Fran and definitely overdid the sightseeing; my right foot cracks with every step I take now and my calves are screaming bloody murder… holy hilly city! Today began with pea soup fog and rain, but eventually cleared when we got to wine country. We’re at a swell B&B in Sacramento tonight where we were treated to an upgraded room (yahoo, jacuzzi for my pathetically sore legs!) and a nightcap of tea and freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, delivered right to our door.

We have Yosemite Park and a drive down the coast to L.A. to look forward to. We just confirmed that we’ll be staying in a yurt for our stint in Big Sur. Any suggestions about what to see / eat on the west coast would be greatly appreciated :)

So yes, we are bummed about having to cancel our original itinerary, but this is a pretty swell Plan B.

On this day especially, I feel like a lucky schmuck. Thanks to the folks who are in my corner, and thanks to you for making my blathering feel worthwhile.

Happy musical milestones

September 27th, 2009

This past Friday night was a cozy evening at Wakefield’s Black Sheep Inn, celebrating a milestone 21st birthday with one of my favourite people, silkscreening gurus and musicians, Meredith Luce — accompanied by the ever-ready Mandates: Eric Vieweg, Dean Watson and Tim Watson.

The great tunes were rounded out by Meredith’s bet-winning version of a Backstreet Boys hit, and home-baked goodies — supplied and snuck in by her lovely parents. Whether it’s her music or her mad graphic skills, I have a feeling you may hear Meredith’s name come up again.

In other happy music-related news from this past week, Dan Mangan (whom I’ve raved about before here) was named “Artist Of The Year” at XM Satellite’s Verge Music Awards. Huge, happy & well-deserved congrats, Dan! Here’s a lil’ peek at a recent video of his — keep yours ears peeled for Veda Hille:

I can’t wait for the Robots video to come out next…

Vive les amis!

May 19th, 2009

Last Friday, two of my dearest friends and my sister brought me to Montreal as a birthday surprise — 24 hours of overeating, strolling the streets, shopping (!!!) and a plain ol’ great girls’ getaway… something I haven’t done in far too long. A few pics of our antics and sights below…

Posing in front of a vent that created a crazy crosswind on the sidewalk we were walking along:

Ah, I’m so easily amused…

Delish dinner at “Au cinquième péché” (which I believe translates to “At the fifth deadly sin” — which is, of course, gluttony):

My sis and me, with our cherry blossom halos:

What a lucky lucky gal I am to be surrounded by such wonderful people. I gushed the whole time we were there. And did I mention I shopped?

The next day, John and I photographed his friend’s wedding — I was second shooter/assistant. I have a new appreciation for this job; it was TOUGH, and the frigid weather only added to the challenge. We took over 3400 shots between the two of us. This one I caught is one of my favourites — it’s of the couple’s 2-and-a-half-year-old near the end of the night… pooped!

I was thankful it was a long weekend because I needed half of Monday to recoup! All good things…
