Urban (and not-too-soggy) Art @ Minto Park

July 18th, 2009

Fellow Ottawa-heads — drop by and say hi while I sell my wears at Urban Art @ Minto Park tomorrow (Saturday, July 18th) from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. The park is on Elgin Street at Gilmour. I’ll be at spot #6, close to Elgin.

I love craft sales… Below is a shot from last May, at my first-ever show (Hintonburg’s ArtsPark).

If you’re an artist, artisan or crafter, I highly recommend partaking in one of these, if you haven’t already. I have met some of the most amazing and talented folks at these events — it’s a whole lot of inspiration packed into a small space and short time period. There’s also something really special about meeting customers in person.

Besides tomorrow, I also recently found out that I was accepted as a vendor at the Wolfe Island Music Festival, which takes place August 7th and 8th. As you may have noticed here, I’m a bit of a music-head — so it’s an especially exciting event for me: my first out-of-town gig AND the line-up there is astounding… Sarah Harmer, Ohbijou, Woodhands, and more. Needless to say, I’m keen keen keen.

In the meantime, the rain is absolutely pouring outside at the moment… and set-up for Minto Park is in five hours. I’m having a polite chat with Ma Nature right now, asking very nicely for the clouds to empty out tonight so that tomorrow will be a clear day. *Pretty please???*

Hope to see some of you tomorrow!

Two days until my first two craft shows of the summer, where I’ll be carting along my new re{VERB] wears, my wears from last year, plus these (cute kiddos not included!):

I was getting asked about baby and kids’ stuff over the last year, enough so that I decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot. The jack and jill line is also so fitting for kids that it would’ve been a shame never to try it, since each design contains lines from children’s verses.

So I simplified three of last year’s most popular designs (We all fall down — trees, Jiggety jig — squid, and See how they run — audiotape), and silkscreened them onto onesies (3-6 mo. / 6-12 mo. / 12-18 mo.) and tees (sizes 2 and 4). As with the re[VERB] shirts, I’ve just begun listing these in my etsy shop.

Again, with the help of some very sweet supportive friends who just happen to have well-behaved and super-cute kids, I can show you how these togs look when worn.

So if you’re in Ottawa this Mother’s Day weekend, drop by one of these events and say hello!

I’d like to re[introduce] you to my 2009 line — just briefly

May 2nd, 2009

With two craft shows on Mother’s Day weekend, I have been a veritable headless chicken lately. There’ve been bumps and stumbles, technical difficulties, a stray cuss word or two… but also wonderful help from friends and lots of “PHEW, I’m glad THAT worked!”

After months of brainstorming, sketching…

…and looking through dictionaries for ideas, I aim to have four new shirt designs ready for next weekend; and another few by midsummer. The designs are all part of what I am calling the re[VERB] line… and other than that, I will exercise great restraint by showing you only this for now. More to come soon, once I’ve corralled the help of my kindly friend models! You’re as excited as me, right?
