Youtube, Itube, we all tube…?

August 22nd, 2009

I was late to catch onto Youtube, but since posting some of my own vids from live shows over the last year or so, I’ve frequented the site a bit more. Most of you have probably seen all the viral videos, like the Sneezing Panda, Otters Holding Hands, Battle at Kruger (where a baby water buffalo somehow survives a bad afternoon), and Bizkit the Sleepwaking Dog, amongst others.

Here are some of my favourites…

Jesse, the wonder hula-hooper:

A Wolf Loves Pork — an unbelievable and ingenius stop animation piece of art:

The Facebook Song, which I was skeptical of at first, but that is actually super clever:

The Evil Eye — one of the cutest (and most evil) kids I’ve ever seen:

A Lollapalooza 2009 Dancer (aka. as my friend Amanda says, “This is why I don’t do drugs.”):

Talking Cats — this one had John and I saying “Why I eyes ya…” to each other for weeks:

Got any good ones to share?
Hope this helps with some weekend entertainment!

What’s in a name (part II)? Lots if your name is Bon Jovi…

March 15th, 2009

Earlier this month, it was Jon Bon Jovi’s birthday… when I heard this, I had a little chuckle, which is what I do every time I think of Jon Bon Jovi. See, the first time (and every time since) my Dad heard the name “Bon Jovi”, he had a pretty huge laugh… and pointed out that it sounded like a term that we pronounce in Taiwanese (and I’m sorry I can’t do the intonations here) “BUNG-jo bee”, which translates to English as — are you ready? — the “stench of urine”.

Another name my Dad has a ton of fun with is game show host, Pat Sajak. In Taiwanese, “Pah SAY-jah” (with the correct tones) means “Smack the little bugger”.

Maybe Taiwanese and English are more alike than you’d think, hey?

I’m being followed by Family Feud

February 12th, 2009

I like Family Feud. I may have been obsessed with it once. So I did a big double-take when I discovered tonight that one of the folks that now “follows” me on Twitter is… yes: family_feud.

Rewind to a couple of years ago, when I stumbled across FF while eating lunch (look, working at home alone can be lonely for an extroverted girl — and tv is good company while I eat my leftovers). The host at the time was Richard Karn (of Al Borland / Home Improvement ‘fame’). He seemed to want to ooze the same way the lecherous, orange-coloured Richard Dawson did back in the day.

Of course, the ridiculous answers (see video) are the most entertaining . A couple I’ve watched unfold:

Q: Name an abundant crop grown in the US.
A: Land

Q: A word that rhymes with “poke”.
A: Uh… uh… uh… MOKE?

And then there was once the question: “Name something you sleep with at night to make you feel safe.” I was thinking blanket, partner, teddy bear… Top answer on the board was: GUN. Survey SAYS: this show is not Canadian.

I cooled off the show once John O’Hurley (of Peterman / Seinfeld fame) became host. Then again, that may have also coincided with finding out that Northern Exposure repeats were playing at noon.
