A sisterly shout-out

April 29th, 2009

Today is my sister’s birthday, and I want to send out a booming “WOOHOO” her way, plus some e-birthday-bumps. Serena and I have pretty much always got along — amazingly. I don’t remember her once telling me to get lost when we were kids; in fact, she created full-on games and scenarios for us to play, did all the voices for my stuffed animals, illustrated stories and paper dolls for me, let me copy all her drawings… I was one lucky little sister. (Well, there was that one time she came up with a game, where if she said “lickety split!”, I’d have to do whatever she said as fast as I could… but I caught onto that! After a week or so…)

Happy birthday, Jeh — thanks for laughing harder at all my jokes than anyone else does, for being my creative sounding board, and for always being in my corner. You amaze me with your talent, your openness, and with the amount of noodles you can put down in one sitting.

All good things!

The Chen Sistahs’ Spring Cleaning Giveaway!

April 15th, 2009

This contest is now closed. Congratulations to our six winners! Thanks to everyone who entered.

My big sis Serena and I are on a bit of a high these days for plenty of reasons — we’re just a little giddy from all this nice weather lately, we’re both gearing up for our birthdays (just one day apart at the end of the month), and we’re each drumming up new designs for the summer.

  2. For an additional ballot: blog about this giveaway — include a link to the post.
  3. For an additional ballot: Twitter about this giveaway — include a link to the tweet.

Shows, shows and more shows

December 10th, 2008

[From December 5th, 2008]

Four holiday craft shows in the span of three weeks — and now I’m pooped. Of the four events, the Hintonburg one was extra-special because I did it with my sis; this is us at her table:

More recently, Ladyfest’s Holiday Craft Sale was also memorable, since it’s SUCH a rockin’ event in every way — amazing vendors and incredible turnout. It was an absolutely overwhelming experience, a blur… and NOT just because I only had 45 minutes of sleep the night before.

The other type of shows I’ve been lucky enough to see recently have taken place in Tim & Amanda’s new abode — two house concerts to warm up the house.

The first one was with Jenn Grant and Justin Rutledge. I’ve been JR’s fan for awhile now, but Jenn was new to my ears, and I’ve been slightly addicted to her since.

The second house concert Timanda had was with Ottawa’s own Jill Zmud and Vancouver’s Dan Mangan. Jill’s sweet voice put a big smile on me, and Dan quite simply blew me away.

I’ve been feeling über-lucky lately. Lucky to be able to do stuff I love, to have such a great group of folks to call friends, and to get to experience firsthand some incredible talents — artisans and musicians alike.
The one thing I’m seriously lacking these days though… sleep. Without further ado: zzzzzzz.
