Lookee here…

March 24th, 2010

A big happy thank you to Jen of Indie Fixx for featuring me in her “Designer’s Sketchbook” series — which shows a few of the steps in my process from doodle to printed tee. Indie Fixx is a blog-and-a-half: a huge resource and fun place to visit, all about life and art and living. She generously supports artists, including her showcase of handmade goods in her Galleria. Merci merci, Jen!

Gratitude (albeit late…)

Ohhhh, Emily Post would be tsk-tsking us if she knew, but we’re only just getting around to doing our wedding Thank You cards now. I think the rule of thumb is that we have a year to send them out, but at almost four months post-nuptials, we feel like delinquents.

I used one of our favourite shots on the big day (taken by Jon Rennie), laid out a card, then got it output by a printer in town, and they came out terrifically! Now, to write them out, address / stamp / post them, and send a couple of photos to some of the relatives at the same time… we’ll get there eventually.

On a distantly related note, John had a terrific opportunity a couple of weeks ago to go on a plane ride (in a Cessna, to be exact) with a friend of ours. He, of course, took a whack of photo gear. Here’s one of many shots he got flying around the city:

That crazy-shaped building right in the middle of the image? That’s the Museum of Civilization, where we got hitched in November. For any plane or aerial shot fanatics, you can see a bunch of other shots John took on his flight by clicking here.

Just call me Auntie Em

My dear friends Steve and Eva are 1st-year university sweethearts. We all lived on the same floor in residence… I can’t believe it’s been 15 years since we all met, and how adult-like we all are now (pffft!).

Three years ago, when they were expecting their first baby, Steve told me they were going to name her Emily if she was a girl. I gave a nonchalant “Oh, that’s nice!”, not wanting to presume anything. He said something like “Uh, after you, ya dummy!” I think I emitted something like “Wheeeeee!!!!!” while kicking my feet wildly. Their firstborn turned out to be a beautiful boy, whom they named Nate.

Fast forward two and a bit years to this past Tuesday, and along comes Steve and Eva’s lovely baby #2: Emily. I went over yesterday to take some photos, and the one above is one of my favourites.

Here’s one of Nate, giving his little sis a bisou:

I couldn’t be more elated, proud or honoured right about now.

StEva, I love you guys, man… and you sure do make cute babies!
