A question for fashion-heads…

Lately, I’ve bought a few tops that come with ribbony straps sewn into the shoulder seams, and these loops help hold the garment in place on a hanger. Handy, right? This makes me say “Yay!”

Until I go to WEAR the garment, that is. The dang straps always pop out. This makes me say “Boo…”

If I tuck the loops into my bra straps, they end up buckling and showing anyway.
If I cut them out, the shirt will definitely fall off the hanger.

So far, my foray into wearing girlier clothes is only going mediocre-ly, thanks to these pesky things.

Any suggestions? What do you do? (Suggestions also welcome from guys, even if you don’t have to deal with this issue firsthand.)

Cut them off I say! You can get hangers that have little grooves/hooks in them so things don’t fall off ;)

I fold, or if they wrinkle easily, I roll them up and store them in a cubby in my closet. No more ribbons showing!

Ugh, I know what you mean – every top in NZ comes with those little ribbons sewn in. Every. Single. One. After living with them for year, I now cut them all out – unless the shirt has a super loose neckline, a hanger with little notches or hooks usually works for me.

I cut them all out and recycle the cute ribbon. they annoy me & i really don’t hang much of my cloth, especially shirts.

I’d cut them out I hate them!

Lots of times those straps aren’t even all that necessary, they are put in by manufacturers to give the item hanger appeal so people will want to buy it. If it falls off the hanger you can use some rubber bands or clothes pegs on a hanger for grip or get some adhesive foam strips to add to a hanger – if you need a few let me know – we can hook you up ;)

If the top has a wide neck where you are having to keep hiding bra straps I sometimes don’t cut them off entirely but leave a bit and hand sew on a little snaps to the ribbon so I can loop it on my bra and don’t have to be constantly pulling my shirt back on my shoulders…okay…long rambling answer hope it helps!

Totally cut them off. Much better to have it comfortable when ON than comfy on a hanger, right?

oh these photos are great, nicey! :)
cut cut cut i say, & then make a fun little something with the ribbons! and think of joy without them! :)

I cut them off, and use flocked hangers so the tops don’t slip off the hangers. :)

Who knew that shopping for girlier clothes meant that I’d have to follow up with shopping for schmancy hardware??? I never knew there was such a thing as flocked hangers… Thanks for the suggestions, guys!

Cut them off and wrap elastics (I use hair elastics) at the desired part of the hanger so that the garment does not slip off… Works for me in a variety of differeent styles…

m – thank you for asking this question. Like you, my foray into girlie/feminine clothing has been challenging. Three times already, I have had someone making weird gestures across the room to me…as if they were wiping crumbs off their shoulders and necklines…trying to tell me to tuck in my stings!
