Just a quick note to blab about a fun project I worked on this week — which includes an illustration of a hockey goal light:

The graphic is going to be used to promote a contest for all fellow Ottawa Sens fans: the winner gets two VIP goal judge seats to a playoff game, right on the glass. Plus a bunch of other stuff like access to a buffet, intermission munchies, and access to the VIP lounge. (Click here or on the graphic above to enter.)

I’m hoping that I can come help get ballots filled out at one of the upcoming games… it involves wearing a construction hat with one of these red flashing lights on top of it and approaching peeps to enter. As you may know, I’m all over helmet-wearing AND hockey, so I hope to make it out one of these days.

In terms of the illustration, I did it in Adobe Illustrator. I drew the outlines and highlights with my Wacom Cintiq, and then all the other elements, I created with the pen tool and my old school mouse. A fun fun job, all around!

The Chen Sistahs’ Spring Cleaning Giveaway!

April 15th, 2009

This contest is now closed. Congratulations to our six winners! Thanks to everyone who entered.

My big sis Serena and I are on a bit of a high these days for plenty of reasons — we’re just a little giddy from all this nice weather lately, we’re both gearing up for our birthdays (just one day apart at the end of the month), and we’re each drumming up new designs for the summer.

So in the spirit of Spring cleaning (read: freeing up some space to make way for new stuff to come), we’re having a giveaway!

We will draw SIX names from the comments left on this post and, in the order they’re drawn, winners will receive their choice of:

We’re each contributing three prizes… so if the first three winners choose items from Serena, then the last three winners will get their choice of items from my shop — or vice versa.

How to enter

  1. Leave a comment here letting us know which item you’d choose if you won from either Serena’s site or my shop.
  2. For an additional ballot: blog about this giveaway — include a link to the post.
  3. For an additional ballot: Twitter about this giveaway — include a link to the tweet.

Nitty gritty

  • Entries can be submitted until Monday, April 27th, at 11:59 PM EST. We’ll do the draw on April 28th morning (the day between our birthdays) and announce the winners here. Good luck!
  • Please make sure to include a valid email address to reach you if you win.
  • Winners will be notified by email and will be given three days to respond. For any winner who does not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen.
  • Open worldwide. We’ll cover S&H :)

The Chen chiquitas say: thanks so much for partaking!

The murder of a thread, and a plug for a fellow silkscreener

December 16th, 2008

So back to the etsy addiction… there are forums (I call them ‘fora’ in my head, but I think most people would think I’m a dolt if I do that out loud) where folks can post opinions, questions, promotions, you name it. One type of promotion is what’s called a “threadkiller”. The original author offers up a prize from their own shop, then people enter to win by posting something (could be a hello, a note, whatever they want). The person who successfully submits a post with no other entries 24 hours after theirs wins the prize, and they have thus “killed” the thread.

I jumped on the threadkilling bandwagon on November 26th — I offered up any 8 greeting cards plus a set of gift tags from my shop. The thread just died yesterday… a slow, heavy-breathing death. The winner was Stacey of “inkwear99” — a feisty competitor who faithfully posted almost every day to beat out other entrants. Congrats, Stacey!

Funky sample item from the inkwear99 shop:

Old Skool Hot Rod Tattoo Inspired and Custom Designed Shoes

Congratulations, Stacey — the well-earned prize is in the mail :)
